Overview
The Global Immersion Guarantee is a funded, field-work centred unit exploring the interlinkage of the environment, society and technology. Drawing on and experiencing in-country case studies as examples, you will travel to one of six locations, including India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, The Pacific Islands or China, you will undertake this solutions focused where you will study the human impact on the environment. Based in one of the international locations, you will undertake field work with partner organisations that focus on areas such as climate change, food and water security, conservation and urbanisation, eco-tourism, the impact of key regional economic sectors on the local environment, global supply chains and environmental sustainability. The fieldwork components of this unit will allow you to apply the theoretical knowledge they gain in class to real world problems. You will be required to complete work prior to, during and after their time overseas, which combines online and face-to-face learning and engagement. Before you go, you will undertake a series of online lessons that will help you develop their intercultural competence, the theoretical concepts you will apply while overseas, and develop an understanding of the country in which you are visiting. While overseas, you will engage with and learn from local organisations leading solutions to sustainability challenges. You will complete a series of lectures and seminars, and draw on field work to complete assessment tasks. After your immersion, you will be required to complete major assessment tasks that will prompt you to reflect on the overall experience and apply the theoretical frameworks examined in local country contexts.
