Overview
English Connect provides English language support and intercultural competency in a co-curricular space to students at Monash University. We run a number of free peer-to-peer co-curricular programs focusing on developing communication skills and intercultural competency in cultural contexts.
Program details
English Connect offers three programs - Let's Chat is perfect for learning about Australia and making friends while speaking English, and Global Professional Communication will help you with all the communication you need for employment and internships. We also run exclusive events that help you see Melbourne and learn more about different cultural festivals. Programs are delivered in semester 1, semester 2 and the summer semester. All programs have both online and in person options
Program structure
Let's Chat runs like a class for 8 weeks, covering three main topics: - Australian University and English Conversations - Australian Culture and Slang - Making New Friends Global Professional Communication has individual workshops which focus on Employment Communication, Workplace Communication, and Intercultural Communication. The events run both on campus and off-campus, and there is something for everyone!
Benefits of the program
Research has shown that students who attend Let's Chat regularly are more likely to achieve a higher WAMs. Also many students have nominated the skills they learned at English Connect have been key to their future careers, and lots of people have made friends for life through the program.
